Fortunato tourney teeing it up Duncan

The seventh annual Joe Fortunato Celebrity Classic tees off this weekend at Duncan Park Golf Course. The tournament is the top fund-raiser for the Miss-Lou Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame.

The $125 entry fee is used for scholarships given by the local NFFHF chapter to seven area high school seniors at its annual February banquet.

There are still a few spots available for anyone interested in participating in the tournament.

Among the celebrities expected to play this year are former pro football players Billy Shaw, Eagle Day, Noland Smith and Ray Poole.

Shaw was recently selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Smith won a Super Bowl ring with Kansas City.

Day and Poole was standout players at Ole Miss before going on to the NFL.

Also, former Ole Miss and Green Bay standout Allen Brown will be doing the cooking.

&uot;We’re going to have a fun time and there will be something for everybody,&uot; Fortunato said.

There will be two tee times both days, with the first time set for 8 a.m. The other tee timee is 1 p.m.

The tournament goes through Sunday.

&uot;Each player will receive a goody bag,&uot; Fortunato said. &uot;We’ll have lots of door prizes and we’ve got three hole-in-one prizes. We appreciate everybody who is participating and the sponsors.&uot;

Golfers can pick up their goody bag Friday night.

Last year, the team of Mark Powell, Derrick Whittington, Paul Sparks and B.J.&160;Guido shot a 110 to win by playoff scorecard.

The foursome fired a 55 on both days.

Also shooting a 110 (56 and 54) was the team of Richard Criswell, Keith Dallalio, Tommy Milligan and Brent Smith.
