New volume of Bible records available from Georgia

Published 12:00 am Monday, May 15, 2000

Among the new releases that have come across my desk, GEORGIA BIBLE RECORDS compiled by Jeannette Holland Austin stands out. This collection contains an itemized list of the births, marriages, and deaths found in approximately 1,000 family Bibles.

Included among these are the Bible records of some of Georgia’s first settlers and prominent figures as well as records of ordinary individuals, some of whom migrated to or from other states. Many of these records were sent to the compiler and author, by the actual Bible owners, while others she copied from Bibles located in the Georgia State Archives and the University of Georgia Library or from genealogical publications. The collection spans a period stretching from the early 1700’s to the 1900’s, and because of its range and diversity it should be a gold mine to the researcher of Georgia families. As Austin explains this work is absolutely unique and cannot be duplicated by any other body of records, published or manuscript. In all, some 20,000 persons are named in these records and these names often span several generations in a single family. The paperback is 538 pages in length and is well indexed. Published by the Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc., the volume is offered at a price of $42.50 plus $3.50 postage and handling for the first book, $1.25 for each additional volume. UPS shipping is available at a slighter higher rate. Orders may be placed with the Clearfield Company, Inc., 200 E. Eager Street, Baltimore, MD 21202 or by phone at 410-625-9004. Visa and Mastercard are welcome.
