A California resident on the run Wednesday for allegedly committing a car jacking and kidnapping in Baton Rouge, La., robbed a convenience store in Natchez Thursday morning, police said.

After leading officers from several law enforcement agencies on a chase to Vicksburg, Jessie Anderson, 36, 40 E.W. Market, Salinas, Calif., was arrested and taken to the Natchez City Jail where he was being held without bond on charge of robbery Thursday. Natchez police got an alert about Anderson Wednesday from Baton Rouge police, said Natchez Police Chief Willie Huff.

Louisiana officials chased the suspect in a stolen 1994 Lincoln Towncar but lost him in the St. Francisville, La., area, Huff said.

Local officers became involved in the chase around 4:49 a.m. after an employee at the Kaiser Food & Fuel on U.S. 61 South called to say she had been the victim of a strong-armed robbery.

&uot;She gave a description of the suspect and the vehicle that robbed her and it matched the description of the vehicle car-jacked in Baton Rouge earlier,&uot;Huff said.

About a minute later, a police officer saw a vehicle speeding on Liberty Road and began chasing it. The officer followed the vehicle on U.S. 61 North and saw its tag number matched that of the car-jacked vehicle, Huff said.

The officer stayed on the vehicle with two other units following about a mile and a half behind, Huff said. Officers from Jefferson County, Claiborne County, Port Gibson, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Vicksburg also took part in the chase.

Vicksburg police officers stopped Anderson a few miles inside their city limits by placing stop sticks — a device that causes tires to deflate — in the highway, Huff said.

Officers arrested Anderson when he stopped the car. He was treated at a Vicksburg hospital for minor injuries from the quick stop before being transported to the Natchez jail, Huff said.

Anderson is wanted for parole violation in California for robbery and drug charges.

He is also wanted in connection with the robbery of a store in Wilkinson County and wanted in Louisiana on the kidnapping and armed robbery charges.

Anderson’s arrest marks the third car chase Natchez officers have been involved with in recent weeks. Huff said the police department takes into account factors such as the seriousness of the crime and the risk of possible injury to the suspect, officers and the public when chasing a vehicles. And from all indications, Anderson would have continued his criminal activities if not stopped, Huff said.

&uot;(He) possibly could have hurt somebody in one of those robberies,&uot; Huff said. &uot;It’s our job to catch them.&uot;

Anderson’s car chase is also the second in Natchez in recent weeks involving a person from the Baton Rouge area.

&uot;I really wish those guys would go towards Lake Charles or New Orleans instead of (coming) to Natchez,&uot; Huff said.
