Vidalia High School’s baseball team recently grabbed top honors in District 3-2A, as head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir was named Coach of the Year and Jarrett Hoffpauir was named All-District Most Valuable Player.
&uot;This is the eighth out of the last nine times that we’ve won our district, and that’s a tribute to the kids,&uot;&160;said Johnny Lee Hoffpauir.
Named to the All-District team were shortstop/pitcher Jarrett Hoffpauir, first baseman Kevin Laird, second baseman Adam Probst, pitcher Rod Donald, and outfielder Matt Dillon.
&uot;All the kids really deserved it,&uot; Hoffpauir said.
&uot;The main thing that I’m so proud of is that I&160;don’t get a vote at all,&uot; he said. &uot;I&160;can nominate people, but I&160;have no say so in the voting process.&uot;
Jarrett Hoffpauir finished with a .634 average in district play, with six homers and a 2-0 pitching record.
&uot;Jarrett really played well during district, and I’m just very proud of him,&uot;&160;Hoffpauir said.
&uot;Rod had a really good year,&uot;&160;Hoffpauir said.
&uot;Kevin was real deserving of the honor. He could have made it as a pitcher as well, even though he was named as first baseman.&uot;
&uot;Matt was very versatile for us this year, and he could’ve made it at any number of positions, so I’m proud of everyone.&uot;
Hoffpauir said that next season might be a challenge.
&uot;I’m going to be losing six starters, three of which are pitchers, so we’re going to be hit hard,&uot;&160;he said.
