NATCHEZ &045; If you headed off to get a bite to eat between games Wednesday, you might have thought the Natchez and Feliciana teams switched uniforms.

Natchez, comprised mainly of Cathedral regular-season players, and Feliciana, made up of Silliman sluggers and arms, each jumped on the other early in their doubleheader, forcing a split.

Natchez won the first 10-8, but Feliciana bounced back to win the second game 15-4 in five innings.

&uot;The good thing about the first game was that we didn’t play that well over the weekend &045; only winning once &045; and we came back after losing three to play well,&uot; Natchez head coach Jo Jo Eidt said. &uot;We came out swinging freely and continued to hit the ball all game.&uot;

Natchez got five runs in its half of the first to take an early 5-0 lead and it provided a nice cushion for starting pitcher Corey Walker early.

After Feliciana got one back in the second on a Will Griffin RBI-double, Natchez manufactured a run in the third on a triple from first baseman Preston Hicks for a 6-1 advantage.

Feliciana behind the bat of Griffin, who came within a homer from hitting for the cycle, Hunter Moody and Caleb Coarsey inched its way back into the contest with two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Cathedral put the game away in the fifth with three runs for a 10-6 lead.

&uot;We played good defense out there today. I was pleased with that,&uot; Eidt said. &uot;I’ve got 16 guys on this team and I’m going to play everybody and that’s what it’s all about.&uot;

Feliciana rebounded off Natchez starter Jeremy Davis in the second game with a run in the first and four in the second on its way to the 10-run mercy rule.

&uot;I don’t think we played that bad at all. It was just a matter of them hitting the ball and we couldn’t,&uot; Eidt said. &uot;Jeremy still has a little tenderness in his arm. None of them have played ball in three weeks, so we need to get those arms back in shape.&uot;

Griffin, who had one of five extra base hits, including three triples, picked up the win for Feliciana.

Except for a four-run fourth inning, Griffin kept Natchez hitters off balanced, while Feliciana blistered the summer night with aluminum pings.

&uot;The top of the order didn’t come through for us like I would’ve liked,&uot; Eidt said. &uot;We had one inning with the bases loaded and nothing came through for us. We’ve got 16 games this season, and will learn how to get better at that.&uot;

Natchez played in a Feliciana tournament last weekend, only to come away with one win, 13-5, in its final game against Columbia Academy.

It lost two games to this same Feliciana team, who pounded out 15 hits Wednesday night, similar to the 11 Natchez produced in the first game.

&uot;We hit the ball well early, then they did it to us in the second game,&uot; Eidt said. &uot;They quickly jumped on us, and after that it was a struggle to get back. It was a carbon copy of the first, but in reverse.&uot;

Only up 5-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning, Feliciana compiled 10 runs over its next two innings to send fans home early Wednesday.

Feliciana had five hitters collect at least to hits to Natchez’s none. Hicks was the only Natchez player to collect an extra-base hit, with his fourth-inning double.

&uot;I think they had fun, even in that second game,&uot; Eidt said. &uot;I got some kids on the mound,, who had never thrown before. Nobody likes to get beat by the 10-run rule, but I still saw some positives out there.&uot;
