VIDALIA — The driver who caused a five-car pileup on the westbound Mississippi River bridge Nov. 25 has been cited for failure to maintain control, but will not face more serious charges, Vidalia Police Chief Ronnie G. “Tapper” Hendricks said.
The driver — Danny Curry, 53, of Ferriday — has blood sugar issues, and his blood sugar bottomed out while he was driving, resulting in the erratic driving that resulted in accidents at two separate locations, Hendricks said.
Curry, who was driving a black Jaguar, reportedly sideswiped an eastbound vehicle at the corner of Carter and South Spruce streets before entering the westbound lanes of U.S. 84 traveling eastward, police said at the time.
The Jaguar entered the westbound U.S. 84 bridge and struck a GMC Jimmy head-on, and three cars traveling behind the Jimmy collided with it, police said.
The accident did not result in any major injuries, but traffic was delayed for some time following the incident.
