After searching a Natchez residence Wednesday, law enforcement officials made what they are calling their largest seizure of crack cocaine this year.
While searching No. 9 North Circle Drive, officials with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Natchez-Adams Metro Narcotics and the Natchez Police Department found 33.7 grams of cocaine in a bedroom of the residence.
&uot;It’s a significant seizure,&uot; said Natchez Police Chief Willie Huff. &uot;Narcotics officers have been working hard on this individual.&uot;
Adrain Van Dixon, 30, No. 9 North Circle Drive, was arrested after the search and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to transfer in a church zone because of the house’s vicinity to Melrose Church of Christ.
While Dixon was being booked into jail, officers also found seven more grams of cocaine and two joints in his clothing. Dixon was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and a second count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Law enforcement officers also recovered $6,105 in cash at the house and on Dixon’s person.
Officers seized cocaine at Dixon’s residence which was a combination of powder and crack cocaine. If the drugs had not been seized, Dixon would probably have turned all of it into crack, increasing its street value to $29,000, officials said.
Dixon was being held on $80,000 bond Thursday evening at the Adams County Jail.
If convicted on the cocaine charges, Dixon could be sentenced to 10 to 30 years for the greater amount and four to 16 years on the lesser amount.
