If you ever dreamed of owning your own fire truck, now may be your chance. For the low, low price of $6,900, East Buick Pontiac Mitsubishi is offering a 1971 Ford fire truck at its John R. Junkin Drive dealership.

&uot;It’s a good novelty item to have — a collector’s item,&uot; said Jamie Smith, a salesman at the dealership.

The truck is in full working condition, complete with sirens, a ladder, a water tank, and only 20,397 miles.

And though it has only been at the dealership a few days, interest has been great.

&uot;We get several calls on it every day,&160;said Carl Rogel, general manager of the dealership. &uot;Everybody wanted to be a fireman when they were little, you know.&uot;

The advantages of owning a fire truck are immeasurable for collectors and parade participants, as well as home owners, say the salesmen. &uot;It would lower your fire insurance because you got a fire station in your front yard,&uot; Smith said with a laugh.

Rogel bought the truck at a recent auction near Jackson. The truck formerly belonged to a volunteer fire station in Lake Harbor.

Rogel admits it is not the kind of vehicle he usually buys, but he &uot;just figured it would draw a lot of attention.&uot;

Other people at the dealership were a bit surprised by the purchase, but Rogel said he has come home with strange items before. It may be difficult to sell but &uot;if anybody can sell it we can,&uot; Rogel said.

And in the meantime, children who visit the dealership love to climb on the truck and hear the siren, Rogel said.

So far shriners clubs, collectors and fraternities have taken the most interest in the truck, Rogel said. But he admits the dealership needs to find the right person who just &uot;has to have&uot; the truck.

&uot;A lot of guys would like to have it, but I don’t think their wives will let (them) bring it home and put it in their yard,&uot; Rogel said.

Smith has driven the truck and says it runs well but is difficult to steer because it does not have power-steering.

&uot;It’s definitely different,&uot; he said. &uot;I never thought I would see a fire truck on a used car lot.&uot;
