FERRIDAY, La. – Mayor-Elect Glen McGlothin’s appointee for Ferriday town clerk said Wednesday he is taking the job to help out his hometown.
&uot;Ferriday is my home,&uot; said Charles Lincecum, who formerly worked in purchasing at Concordia Electric and Centennial Wireless but is currently unemployed. &uot;I love it here.&uot;
The town council will still have to approve Lincecum’s appointment, which McGlothin said the council is scheduled to do in a special meeting to be held just after McGlothin and council members are sworn in at 10 a.m. Saturday.
&uot;He’s got a good background in purchasing, accounts payable and other areas, and he has a master’s of business administration, too,&uot; said McGlothin, who announced the appointment Wednesday. &uot;All nine applicants were good, but he was the best.&uot;
In addition to the performing the town clerk’s usual duties, Lincecum, a former grant writer for the City of Natchitoches, said he will lend any assistance he can to the town’s incoming grant writer, former mayoral candidate Alex Promise.
Lincecum said he is aware that he is going into a job that has recently been surrounded in controversy.
Former Town Clerk Ida Tolliver and ex-water clerk Kathy Green were fired in February after, according to a state auditor’s report, they admitted stealing $114,927 in property tax and utility payments and posting $2,895 in bogus utility credits between July 1998 and February 2000. After a review of the town’s 1999 tax records, Legislative Auditor Dan Kyle released a report stating an extra $22,879 was missing.
But Lincecum said he is used to conflict, since some of his duties at Concordia Electric involved customer service. &uot;When people are calling you about power outages, they get really creative in what they call you,&uot; he said, laughing.
