FERRIDAY, La. — Glen McGlothin fired three more of the town’s 50-plus workers this week, but the new mayor said a wholesale termination of town employees isn’t in the works.

&uot;I’m trying not to disrupt things,&uot;&160;said McGlothin, who also served as mayor from 1988 to 1996.

&uot;I’ve terminated three people, but it’s nothing personal. I just have people in mind for those positions … who can perform a variety of tasks.&uot;

The fired employees worked in the town’s Sewer, Water and Street divisions.

Those terminations are in addition to one patrol officer, one dispatcher and an assistant court clerk who were fired Saturday. Another dispatcher, an assistant court clerk and an investigator were hired.

McGlothin said he plans to meet with all town employees next week, although a specific date for that meeting has not yet been scheduled.

&uot;I’ve already gone by (offices) when the employees were just getting to work and met with some of them, but not all,&uot;&160;he said.

On Monday, he met with department heads to see what new equipment and repairs are needed. And he plans to meet with Town Accountant Myles Hopkins and the Town Council’s Finance Committee to see which purchases the town can afford.

&uot;I’ll meet with them after I&160;name the committee next Tuesday,&uot; McGlothin said, referring to the council’s regular meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.

During that regular meeting, McGlothin also plans to ask the council to consider buying new computer software to track water bills and Police Department fines.
