The 5-foot-9, 150-pound Mays is the only Concordia Parish player selected for the game.

&uot;I’m hoping to impress some coaches from other teams who haven’t used up all of their scholarships yet,&uot; Mays said.

Mays finished his stellar career at Vidalia last year with 2,265 yards rushing on 278 carries and 33 touchdowns.

Mays also caught 27 passes for 495 yards for the Vikings, who finished 10-2, falling to Christian Life in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Mays’ 2,265 yards was the most ever by a Vidalia running back in a single season.

Woodside rushed for 2,225 yards in his senior year of 1981.

Mays finished as Vidalia’s third all-time leading rusher with 3,866 yards.

Woodside totaled 4,152 yards, while Jackson had 3,995.

&uot;I’m very honored to be picked for the all-star game,&uot;&160;Mays said. &uot;I’ve been working out a little bit and playing in pick-up basketball games. I’ll pick up the conditioning next week.&uot;

Mays was named All-Metro Player of the Year and also was selected to the Class 2A All-State squad.

Mays reports to all-star football practice July 17 on the campus of LSU in Baton Rouge.

&uot;I’m looking forward to have the chance to play with some of the big-name players across the state,&uot; he said. &uot;I think I can start. I just want the chance to prove myself. I’m thankful to be there.&uot;
