Summit.

The 13-year-old squad had to work a little harder, however,

even with the luxury of having to win only one of two games against

Summit. Natchez scored eight runs in the fifth and added five

in the seventh for a 14-13 win.

Natchez, which finished the tournament unbeaten, will advance

to the state tournament in Laurel, with its first game scheduled

for July 23.

Trailing 6-1, Natchez fought back to take a 9-6 lead in the

fifth inning.

&uot;We just didn’t play early like we were capable of playing,

but the boys never got down,&uot; said Natchez coach Joe Joe

Eidt.

Summit regained the lead at 10-9 in the sixth inning.

With one man out in the top of the seventh, Dustin Case of

Natchez walked with one man out.

David Trisler singled and both runners advanced to second and

third.

With Jeremy Davis at the plate, Summit elected to walk the

batter intentionally to load the bases. But a wild pitch allowed

Case to score, followed by a balk which brought in Trisler in

to give Natchez an 11-10 lead.

With two men out, Chris Rasco walked, Joey Wilson and Drew

Burns singled and Phillip Eidt delivered a two-run single.

Summit fought back to 14-12 with two men out an runners on

first and third, but Rasco got the runner on first base into a

rundown.

The baserunner from third scored, but the other runner was

tagged out to end the game.

&uot; There are times it is better to be lucky than good, but

we put the pressure on them and now we’re going to Laurel,&uot;

Eidt said.

Jeremy Wallace and Burns had three hits each for Natchez, while

Jeremy Davis added another.

Trisler added a triple.

Case started on the mound for Natchez, while Davis and Rasco

also pitched.
