&uot;That boy on the mound (Summit’s Brendon Van Norman) got tougher and tougher as the game went on,&uot; said Natchez coach David New Jr. &uot;The first inning he wasn’t throwing well, but he picked up his speed after that. He had a change up and was working for him. We hit some balls hard, but they made the defensive plays.&uot;

Walker entered the game in the sixth inning and struck out the first batter, allowed a single to Cory Dearborn, but struck out the next batter.

Landon Morgan of Summit followed with a single up the middle that went off Walker’s wrist.

&uot;He was lying on the ground and all he wanted to know was if a run scored, and he said he wanted to finish the game,&uot;&160;New said.

Natchez has outscored its opponents 43-3 through sub-district and district.

&uot;We needed a tough game like this,&uot; New said. &uot; I was real proud of the way the guys stayed together and patted each other on the backs.&uot;
