Davis, 15, ran a time of 54.94 Thursday after running a 54.71 Tuesday.

The race Tuesday was run with temperatures at 45 degrees.

Stanton had a winning time of 53.83.

Davis was the anchor on the USA 4×400 relay team which defeated Canada Tuesday.

The 400-relays will be run today in Quebec as part of the Provinicial Championships for Sherbrooke (Quebec) Region.

Davis’ 400-meter coach, Darryl Hampton, who coaches track at Berkeley (Calif.) High, has been impressed with the Natchez High junior honor student.

&uot;Janice is a great kid and she is still very young,&uot; Hampton said. &uot;She has a very bright future. To run in the low 54s at her age like she did the other day just shows she has a great future. She could very possibly be running in the Olympic Games in the future.&uot;

Davis, the daughter of Janice Davis and Dr. Benny Wright, was selected to the USA&160;World Team after placing second in the 400-meters at the National Junior Championships in Denton, Texas last month.

The 5-foot-5 Davis ran a time of 54.44 in Denton to finish second to Angela Parker of California after finishing second in her qualifying heat.

In the 400-meter relay, the USA team fell behind Canada in the first leg, but gradually caught up when the baton was passed to Davis on the final quarter-mile.

Davis took the baton and finished well ahead of her Canadian counterpart.

Davis won the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash at the Class 5A State Track Championships in the spring.

Davis could possibly be selected for an international meet to be held in Santiago, Chile in October.

Davis will compete in the USA Nationals in Buffalo, N.Y., July 25-30. Davis received a waiver in qualifying for the Nationals because of her performance in Denton. She finished fourth in the Nationals last year.
