VIDALIA – The resignation of Ferriday High School Principal Tony Moore and the reappointment of Dorothy Parker as interim principal of Ferriday Junior High will be considered tonight by the Concordia Parish School Board.
Neither Moore nor Superintendent Lester &uot;Pete&uot; Peterman could be reached Monday. Parker served as interim principal last year because Principal James Lee, former school superintendent of Concordia Parish, was disabled due to a blood clot in his leg.
During the meeting set for 5:30 p.m. at the district’s Title I office building, Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland will ask the board to allow the town to construct a road through the schoolyard of Vidalia Upper Elementary to divert school traffic from Concordia Avenue.
That is because Concordia Avenue will be a main thoroughfare to and from the Vidalia Landing riverfront site now being developed. If approval is given, the new road would be built and Concordia Avenue would be widened in the next two weeks, Copeland said.
&uot;We want to do it as soon as possible because we want to be finished before school starts Aug. 19,&uot; he said. In the past, Concordia Avenue has been one way for one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon to accommodate school traffic, but he will also ask the board to suspend that practice.
