Adams County supervisors said they still hope to vote next Monday on legislation for a revamped Natchez-Adams County Economic Development Authority.

Supervisors sent their recommendation on the new plan to the Natchez Board of Aldermen Tuesday but waited to vote until each supervisor had a chance to read the proposal.

But Darryl Grennell said Wednesday he has read the plan and talked with county attorney Marion Smith about it.

&uot;I don’t have a problem with it,&uot; he said.

The new plan calls for a five-member board, with three members appointed by the county and two by the city. Elected officials would be barred from serving on the EDA board – a change from an earlier version of the plan, which had the sitting mayor serving as the city’s only representative. The county would provide 60 percent of the funding and the city 40 percent.

On Tuesday, the city approved the proposed legislation with the added a provision that both boards would meet each year to review the funding allocation. &uot;The purpose is to put some kind of cap on (the city’s contribution),&uot; city attorney Walter Brown said Tuesday.

Other supervisors said Wednesday they have not received the new plan from the city and could not comment on it yet.

But Supervisors President Virginia Salmon said she still hopes the legislation will have a chance for consideration at the special session at the end of this month.

Gov. Ronnie Musgrove said he has received more than 100 requests for bills to be considered at the session and has not made a decision what to include on the agenda.

Aldermen and supervisors have been trying to come up with a compromise revision plan for the now 15-member EDA board for several months. The EDA&160;has been without a permanent executive director for about a year and a half, but board members have been searching for a director. EDA&160;officials have said it is difficult to find a qualified candidate with funding and board makeup undecided.
