FAYETTE – An early morning shooting left one person dead and three others injured Sunday at a Jefferson County lounge.
Jamaal L. Sherell Odom, 18, of Hermanville, the son of Constable Carl Bailey, died as a result of his injuries.
Another victim, Christopher Barnes was shot in the leg. He was in stable condition Monday at Natchez Community Hospital Monday.
He declined comment on the incident.
The two other victims, A.V. Smith and Marvin Johnson, ages and addresses unavailable, were treated and released from the hospital.
Jefferson County Sheriff Department Investigator Glynn Holiday said he was not certain what led up to the shooting, but he thought it started with an argument.
The lounge, which has gone through several name changes, is located on Highway 552 just past the city limits of Fayette to the east, he said.
Deputies think the shooting took place at about 3:30 a.m.
The sheriff’s department is still waiting for crime lab reports to assess Odom’s injuries. Holiday said Odom had injuries to his head but deputies are not certain how many times he was shot or from how far away.
&uot;We don’t have a lot of information from the crime lab,&uot; Holiday said. &uot;It’s still under investigation.&uot;
As of Monday night, the sheriff’s department did not have any suspects and no arrests had been made.
&uot;We’re still talking to a lot of people,&uot; Holiday said, who added he was not sure how many people were at the lounge at the time of the incident.
