FERRIDAY — Chante Poole’s return to the lineup for the Ferriday Lady Trojans after being suspended for violating team rules has been a big difference.

The Block Lady Bears found that out first hand Tuesday night as Poole poured in a game-high 25 points to lead the Lady Trojans to a 63-44 win that put them at 4-5 on the season.

Jasmine Butler and T’Keyah Fletcher scored 13 points each for Ferriday, which led by just one point after one quarter of play only to pull away from Block over the next two quarters.

“Early scoring. Our defense has been playing well the last couple of games,” Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said. “Playing our tempo. We like to play up-tempo. We feel like it’s to our advantage. We controlled the entire game, I believe.”

Well maybe not quite the entire game. Block hung tough with Ferriday in the first quarter, which ended with the Lady Trojans clinging to a 15-14 lead. But in the second quarter, Ferriday’s defense forced turnovers and tough shots which resulted in the Lady Trojans outscoring the Lady Bears 23-11 for a 38-25 halftime lead.

Ferriday didn’t let up in the third quarter either as it scored 16 points while Block (2-7) was held to eight points.

Tyra Jefferson led the Lady Bears with 16 points and Desiree Savage scored 15 points.

Natchez High 69, Terry 56

TERRY — Keosha Bradley, Anastasia Hutchins and Jasmine Belton combined to score 56 points as visiting Natchez Highs remained undefeated in Division 6-6A with a 13-point win over host Terry Tuesday night.

Bradley led all scorers with 21 points while Hutchins had 20 points and Belton added 15 points for Natchez High, which improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in division play.

After a tough start to the season at the Vicksburg/Warren Central Tournament, Natchez High has hit its stride and could very well still end up being one of the best teams in all of Class 6A.

Even though Terry tried its best to stay with Natchez High throughout the game, it still could not get over the hump. Natchez High outscored Terry in all four quarters, including a pivotal 17-11 advantage in the third quarter that gave the visitors an 11-point lead.

Shaniqua Love and Cassie Berry led Terry with 18 points apiece.

Monterey 52, Georgetown 38

MONTEREY, La. — Led by Rachel Pecanty and Brooke Baker, the Monterey Lady Wolves opened up a close game with a solid performance in the second half to defeat the Georgetown Lady Bulldogs by 14 points Tuesday night.

Monterey (13-4) jumped out to a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Georgetown got back in the game by outscoring Monterey 14-10 in the second quarter and trailed by just four points at halftime.

But that would be as close as the Lady Bulldogs would get. The Lady Wolves increased their lead to seven points after three quarters of play and then put the game on ice by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 18-11 in the fourth quarter.

Pecanty finished with 16 points to lead all scorers and Baker had 11 points. Ellen Bairnsfather and Kendall Lipsey each had eight points. Danielle Collins scored 15 points and Haley Cockerham had eight points for Georgetown.

Huntington 45, River Oaks 30

MONROE, La. — Led by Abi Brown’s game-high 18 points, the Huntington Lady Hounds won for just the second time in seven games with a 15-point win over the River Oaks Lady Mustangs Tuesday night.

Huntington (2-5) completely dominated River Oaks on both ends of the court in the first quarter on its way to a 15-4 lead. Even though the next three quarters were much closer, River Oaks was unable to put together any rally to get back in the game.

Kristen Havard and Abby Ashmore each scored seven points for the Lady Hounds. Amber Kovac led River Oaks with 10 points.

Centreville 46, WCCA 39

WOODVILLE — The WCCA Lady Rams appeared to had swiped the momentum away from Centreville in the second quarter, but the Lady Tigers responded in the second half and ended up taking a seven-point win.

In the MAIS District 5-AA opener for both teams Tuesday night, Centreville dominated the first quarter en route to a 13-7 lead. However, WCCA rallied by outscoring Centreville 14-5 in the second quarter to take a 21-18 lead into halftime.

But the Lady Tigers, led by Katie Berry and Renee Miley, outscored the Lady Rams 15-9 in the third quarter to take the lead for good and 13-9 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback victory. Berry led all scorers with 16 points and Miley added 12 points for Centreville (1-0 in district play).

Terri Fisher scored 15 points and Mary Claire Netterville had 11 points to lead WCCA (2-8, 0-1).

Franklin County 61, North Pike 57

MEADVILLE — CeeCee Miller scored a game-high 29 points and Franklin County needed every one of them as the Lady Bulldogs rallied to defeat the North Pike Lady Jaguars in a match-up for former longtime division rivals.

North Pike, now in Class 4A, led Franklin County 11-9 at the end of the first quarter and 31-27 at halftime. After the Lady Bulldogs cut the lead to two points at the end of the third quarter, they won the game with a 20-14 advantage over the Lady Jaguars in the fourth quarter.

Kierra Collins added 11 points for Franklin County. Kaylan Hughes led North Pike with 22 points and Olivia Kennedy had 17 points.
