Although South Carolina managed two outs, four walks scored four runs and brought the tying run to the plate. New, who had begun the rally with his single, popped up to center and ended the inning.

South Carolina added a run in the sixth, but Natchez could not mount another comeback.

&uot;It was a great overall experience,&uot; coach David New Jr. said. &uot;The competition was great, all they got to see and do, having to talk to the media. It was good for them.&uot;

Natchez finished fourth overall in the tournament, no small accomplishment, New said.

&uot;We got a real nice trophy, and the boys got all the medals and things you get for fourth place,&uot; he said. &uot;They’re having a good time.&uot;

Cole Bradford may be getting more medals and things, New said. Bradford, who went 1-3 with a single, began last night with a first-place .750 tournament batting average.

&uot;That will come down a little after tonight, and he’s competing with a couple of boys from North Carolina,&uot; New said. &uot;We’ll just have to wait and see.&uot;

The team plans on staying in Texas today to watch the rest of the tournament before heading back to Natchez Sunday.

&uot;We’ve been on a pretty tight schedule,&uot; coach New said. &uot;We’re going to let them have a little fun.&uot;
