Franklin County tops Loyd Star 35-7

MEADVILLE — Chris Robinson led Franklin County’s ground game with 128 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries as the Bulldogs rolled to a 35-7 win over the Loyd Star Hornets Friday night.

Robinson had a 33-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter that gave Franklin County a 21-0 halftime lead, and his 13-yard touchdown run nearly midway through the third quarter gave the Bulldogs a 28-0 advantage.

A play by the special teams allowed the Bulldogs to jump out to an early lead. Troy Norman blocked a punt and fell on the ball in the back of the end zone for a touchdown and Matt Brasher’s extra point put them up 7-0 at the 10:20 mark of the first quarter.

Franklin County quarterback Jadarius Davis made it 14-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with his 1-yard scoring run just 47 seconds into the second quarter. Malik Moore scored on a 7-yard run with 11:50 to go in the ball game to make it 35-0. Brasher was a perfect 5-for-5 on extra points.

The Bulldogs were closing in on their second straight shutout to start the season until Loyd Star scored on a Seth Farmer 1-yard run with 3:09 remaining. Cori Crowe added the extra point.

Franklin County had 238 total rushing yards and 14 first downs while its defense held Loyd Star to just seven first downs and 79 yards of total offense.

The two teams were penalized a combined 29 times in the game. The Bulldogs were flagged 19 times for 150 yards while the Hornets had 10 penalties but for just 55 yards.

Franklin County (2-0) plays host to a much tougher opponent next Friday when Tylertown pays a visit to Louie Mullins Memorial Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
