Make Auburn part of your tradition
Published 12:00 am Friday, December 11, 2009
Tradition is a word that is very often used to describe holiday events.
We at Auburn Antebellum Home are inviting you to share a tradition of which we are especially proud. Our annual Christmas Open House will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The decorations will be in place, tours and refreshments will be available, and music by the Reeves sisters will fill the air.
What a wonderful family tradition for your family and friends. It is the one time each year when there is no charge and you are allowed to wander through the house at your leisure.
If you have never come to our open house, now is the time to start and if you have been a regular, we are so excited to see you again.
As always, we are honored to have former members come by. After all, if it had not been for these far-sighted individuals, we may not have this as the showplace it is today.
This has been a busy year for us with a name and focus change completed, the addition of central heat and air on the second floor, and the beginnings of several ongoing renovation projects left too long undone.
Over the last few years we have been amazed at the wonderful stories you have shared with us and the interest you have shown in helping us maintain this house, the “first of the grand mansions of Natchez.”
There are so many to thank for their efforts but foremost has been the cooperation of our city leaders, Mayor Jake Middleton, Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis, Alderman Bob Pollard, City Clerk Donnie Holloway and others.
Excellent restoration work has been done by Concordia Millwork and Landers Painting, with the central system installed by Air Technology Specialist.
A special “thank you” is extended to Bruce Kuehnle for his assistance.
Well, maybe a few of our traditions are changing, but we still feel that the most important one of all is the interest and support of the people who actually own Auburn — the citizens of Natchez and the surrounding area — you!
Please stop by Sunday afternoon, and let us thank you in person.
