FERRIDAY, La. – Claiborne Academy’s Angela Atkins held Huntington School to just one hit in a 7-4 win over the Lady Hounds Thursday.

The loss was the last regular game for Huntington, which dropped to 12-3 for the year. The Lady Rebels improved to 5-8.

Erin Hedrick pitched the loss for the Lady Hounds, striking out four, but allowing eight hits. Atkins earned the win, giving up only the one run and striking out six.

Tiffany Ferguson managed the only Huntington hit on a bunt in the bottom of the fourth inning. A Lauren Wagoner sacrifice moved Ferguson into scoring position, and she scored the Lady Hounds’ first run of the game on a wild pitch.

&uot;Obviously you want to win every game, but we’re going to try to use this as a positive,&uot; Huntington coach Michael McAnally said. &uot;I hope this is a wake up call.

&uot;We started the season 10-0, and I think it gave us the big head,&uot; he said. &uot;We made mistakes, but they didn’t hurt us. I think games like this really show those mistakes, and we need to learn from them.&uot;

Especially with the South State District Tournament at Amite Christian School Saturday, and Huntington hosting the state tournament Sept. 30.

Huntington faces Pine Hills at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, but all four teams in the South District have already qualified for the state tournament.

&uot;We’re pretty much playing for seeding,&uot; McAnally said.
