ST. JOSEPH, La. — Tensas Academy running back Lee Hale was virtually unstoppable, rushing for 184 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries as the Chiefs defeated the Trinity Saints 28-6 Friday night at St. Joseph.

&uot;The offensive line did a good job of blocking,&uot; said Tensas head coach Rob Jacobs. &uot;Lee did a wonderful job running the ball tonight.&uot;

Not only did Hale have a good game, but so did the Chiefs defense, which held the Saints offense to only 104 total yards.

&uot;I was real pleased with the defense,&uot; Jacobs said. &uot;Chad (Ridley) broke one long one on us to set up their score, but I was surprised that we held them to around 100 yards of total offense, especially with the players and speed they have.&uot;

Tensas (5-1) set the tone for the game as Hale scored on runs of 2, 35 and 2 yards in the first quarter for a 21-0 lead.

Hale scored again in the second quarter on a two-yard run and added the extra point for a 28-0 lead.

Trinity (3-3) scored its only points of the game with 1:17 remaining in the second quarter on a one-yard run by Cole Brown. The extra point was no good.

&uot;I thought we played well in the first half,&uot; Jacobs said. &uot;Trinity forced some turnovers in the second half and we couldn’t get a sustained drive going.&uot;

Despite the loss, Trinity head coach David King was pleased with the effort of his team.

&uot;We were beaten by a much better ball team,&uot; coach King said. &uot;We got off to a 21-0 deficit and didn’t have enough to come back. Our team could have quit, but it didn’t. We outplayed them in the second half.

&uot;We’ll try to bounce back next week.&uot;

Trinity quarterback Chad Ridley had a rough game, completing just six of 17 passes for 75 yards with four interceptions, and he had 15 carries for 32 yards.

Brown had five catches for 59 yards to lead all receivers.

Tensas quarterback David Crigler completed six of 10 passes for 55 yards with one interception.

Trinity hosts Amite School Center, ranked No. 2 in the state, in a MPSA Class 5-1A game next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Tensas plays at Briarfield in a MPSA District 7-1A contest next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. &uot;Briarfield will be a barnburner,&uot; Jacobs said.
