Republican Party leaders and volunteers celebrated the grand opening of Adams County’s GOP headquarters, complete with bumper stickers, yard signs and the chance to meet Fourth District Congressional candidate Dunn Lampton.

Located next to Subway at the corner of John R. Junkin Drive and Lower Woodville Road, the headquarters will promote Lampton and other Republican candidates George W. Bush and Sen. Trent Lott until the general election Nov. 7.

Pat Dickens, Adams County Republican Executive Committee chairperson, said a group of local businesspeople donated the rental of the vacant building to serve as the local party’s headquarters.

&uot;Normally we meet once a month at the courthouse,&uot; Dickens said. &uot;We’ll be here, hopefully, through our victory No. 7.&uot;

Dickens said the party’s volunteer activities will be coordinated through the headquarters.

&uot;Headquarters win elections,&uot; Lampton said. &uot;They are the nerve centers of a campaign.&uot;

Volunteers make up the entire staff of the Adams County headquarters, Dickens said.

Anyone wishing to volunteer their time and services to the campaign is welcome, she added.

&uot;If a lot of people would just do a little bit, you’ll have a success,&uot; Lampton said.

Republican volunteer Sherry Bearden said anyone who is interested in the campaigns can stop by the office to learn more about the candidates.

&uot;It’s a way to help people in the community feel included,&uot; she said, adding that often people don’t think they are important if they don’t hold an office in the organization.

&uot;But the very people that are the most important are those people,&uot; she said.
