FERRIDAY, La. – Ferriday’s game plan for today’s homecoming game against Winnsboro is simple – play hard.

&uot;We’re going to do like we’ve done all year,&uot; Ferriday coach James McFarland said.

So far, that’s been good enough, as the 4-0 Trojans are ranked No. 10 in the state among 2A schools.

But McFarland said Winnsboro is a tough team the Trojans can’t afford to underestimate.

&uot;They’re 3-1, and they’re only a couple points away from being 4-0,&uot; he said.

Winnsboro runs a multiple set offense, McFarland said.

&uot;They like to run the football,&uot; he said. &uot;That’s what we’re going to have to stop.&uot;

So far, Ferriday’s defense has done an admirable job stopping just about everybody, which is why there will be few defensive changes this week, according to defensive coordinator Rodney Lloyd.

&uot;We’re just going to line up in our regular defense and try to stop them, and we’re going to stop them,&uot; he said. &uot;We’re going to see whose boys are stronger.&uot;

The strength of the Trojans’ defense is the linebacking corps, led by Stanley Smith, Akeem Evens and Carlton Curvin. Other defensive stars to watch are defensive lineman Shermaine Hawkins and defensive back Fred Jones, Lloyd said.

&uot;The entire defense has played well through the first four games, but those are the guys who stood out,&uot; he said.

An offensive stand-out through the Trojans’ first three games was running back Corey Gordon, but a strained knee ligament had him sidelined last week and questionable for today.

&uot;He’ll be dressed, but I don’t know if he’ll see any action,&uot; McFarland said.
