Who’s on the EDA? Supervisors talk about appointments

Adams County supervisors were faced Monday with a familiar question: Who will serve on the board for the Natchez Adams County Economic Development Authority?

With 10 of the 15 members serving on expired terms, Supervisor Lynwood Easterling said he thinks it is time to make some decisions.

&uot;I guess I’m asking for action,&uot; he told supervisors at their regular meeting.

Easterling said he recently spoke with former Natchez Mayor Tony Byrne, whose term on the EDA board expired in April 1999.

Byrne does not want to be reappointed so &uot;why don’t we refill (the available positions?)&uot; Easterling said.

The EDA, which is funded by both the city and county, has been in limbo since the January 1999 resignation of Director Andi Quartey.

Aldermen and supervisors have asked the state Legislature to approve a bill this spring to reduce the size of the EDA board to five members.

&uot;I feel strongly that they will (approve the bill) because the city and the county both support it,&uot; Easterling said. But Easterling said he thinks the county should fill the expired terms prior to the bill’s approval by the Legislature.
