Trojans may be own worst enemy

FERRIDAY, La. The Ferriday Trojans face an undefeated team Friday – themselves.
&uot;We’ve got to guard against complacency,&uot; head coach James McFarland said. &uot;Thinking we’re at the top of our game when we really haven’t won anything yet. We need to guard against that more than anything else.&uot;
The 5-0 Trojans travel to Crowville Friday to battle the winless Bulldogs for the first district match-up for both teams.
Crowville’s less-than-stellar record has McFarland more worried than one might expect.
&uot;Who knows what they’ll do?&uot; he said. &uot;What would you have to lose? They haven’t won a game, but it’s a new season in district. Everybody’s 0-0.
&uot;I know I wouldn’t hold anything back,&uot; he said. &uot;They might think we’re vulnerable. That we’ve been reading our own press clippings and we’re ready to get caught.&uot;
Crowville typically runs a balanced offense, McFarland said.
&uot;They’ll run a pro set, then they’ll go to a shotgun and try to throw the ball,&uot; he said.
His Trojans will stick to the game plan that has them ranked No. 9 in the state, McFarland said.
&uot;Play good defense, don’t make mental mistakes. Run the ball and throw the ball,&uot; he said. &uot;We don’t plan on doing anything different against anybody.&uot;
The Trojans got off to a slow start last week against Winnsboro, heading into halftime with a 0-0 tie score before exploding for 33 second-half points.
&uot;Winnsboro is a very good defensive team, and we were prepared for that,&uot; McFarland said. &uot;This week we hope to get out to an early start.
&uot;But that’s the thought for every game, offensively,&uot; he added. &uot;Get out quick so the defense can come in and mop up.&uot;
Ferriday starters Cedric Saulsberry and Corey Gordon are not at 100 percent due to nagging ankle and knee injuries, McFarland said, but both will play Friday.
