The murder rate is down, the county is talking to a potential economic prospect, the city is taking steps to balance the budget — our local leaders gave us plenty of good news last week.

But the highlights don’t stop there. Plenty of local residents helped to make the last week a great one.

– Melrose and Auburn hosted Christmas Open House events, sharing their holiday decorations with the public for free. We hope local residents take advantage of our Natchez treasures anytime they get the chance.

– Chantry Simpson has been chosen as the Vidalia Junior High School student of the year. The student athlete has his priorities straight, and we are happy the school recognized his hard work. Congratulations Chantry.

– A group of local businessmen are working to revive waning efforts for economic development in Adams County. The group wants to put forth needed money and ideas to improve our county.

– First Natchez Radio, the U.S. Army and Dairy Queen group collected dozens upon dozens of toys Friday to be distributed through local non-profit agencies. The annual toy drive helps out families in need and is an important community outreach.
