Vidalia police arrest, charge man for Monday shooting

VIDALIA, La. – A 21-year-old Vidalia resident was arrested Friday charged with the Monday shooting of another Vidalia resident, Machard Shoceola Long.
Vidalia Police Chief Billy Hammers said police arrested Cedric D. Ward, 21, 406 Maple St., after talking with the victim and other witnesses.
Officers think Ward shot Long three times at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Carolina Street, at about 9 p.m. Monday.
Officer arrived at the scene to investigate reports of shots fired and found Long bleeding from the gunshot wounds. Hammers said police are not certain what motivated the shooting and have not located a weapon. After the shooting, Long was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center and, on Tuesday, was transferred to UMC where he was listed in stable condition Friday.
