PELAHATCHIE – The East Rankin Academy Patriots scored 22 unanswered points in the second for a come-from-behind 34-13 win over the Trinity Episcopal Saints Friday night at Pelahatchie.
East Rankin won the game with its running game with 280 total rushing yards.
&uot;We just got beat by a better team,&uot; said Trinity head coach David King. &uot;We played hard, but we didn’t have enough at the end. We fought till the end.&uot;
East Rankin (6-2) jumped out to a 12-0 lead on a four-yard run by Joey Edwards in the first quarter and a 20-yard run by Corey Ainsworth. Trinity (3-5) came back late in the first half on two Chad Ridley touchdown passes, the first one a 68-yard bomb to Cole Brown and the second a 23-yard pass to Kellen Jex on the final play of the half. Gregory Ketchings added the extra point after the second touchdown to give the Saints a 13-12 halftime lead.
Ridley completed eight of 20 passes for 144 yards with one interception and had 22 carries for 67 yards. That would be short-lived, however, as the Patriots scored on a 13-yard run by Edwards in the third quarter and a 10-yard run by Adam Sessums and a 5-yard run by Lee Beard in the fourth quarter.
Trinity hosts Central Private next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
