Ferriday squeezes overtime victory over Farmerville; Vidalia falls to McCall

FARMERVILLE, La. – The seventh-ranked Ferriday Trojans got off to a slow start, but pulled out a 21-20 overtime win over Farmerville Friday night on the road.

Ferriday took the lead in overtime on Nathaniel Smith’s 5-yard run. Brennan Smith made the extra point.

Farmerville also scored in the overtime period but missed the conversion.

&uot;It was tough,&uot; said Ferriday head coach James McFarland. &uot;They’re a good team and we knew it. They brought it to us. But we held on, though.&uot;

Farmerville grabbed an 8-0 lead on quarterback Kenneth Haulcy’s 30-yard keeper. The two-point conversion was good.

Ferriday tied the score at eight in the second quarter when Tyrrence Taylor connected with LaKendrick Nix on a 15-yard pass.

Ferriday then took a 14-8 lead in the third quarter on Taylor’s 8-yard pass to Lawrence Washington.

But Farmerville answered with a touchdown pass of 53 yards from Haulcy to Tomorrio Bilberry in the fourth quarter.

&uot;We knew it was going to be tough,&uot; McFarland said. &uot;We came out flat, but we were able to overcome it.&uot;

Taylor completed six of 18 passes for 106 yards with no interceptions.

Corey Gordon had 14 carries for 73 yards to lead Ferriday in rushing.

Ferriday, 7-0 overall, returns to District 3-2A action when it hosts Block next Friday at 7 p.m.

McCall 28, Vidalia 12

TALLULAH, La. – The Vidalia Vikings suffered a big District 3-2A loss on the road to McCall 28-12 Friday.

&uot;Game? It wasn’t a game,&uot; said Vidalia head coach Dee Faircloth. &uot;They killed us.&uot;

Faircloth added that after being on top of the district for several years, &uot;whatever goes around comes around.&uot;

&uot;We just couldn’t match up with them,&uot; Faircloth said. &uot;They took it to us. They’re got a lot better ball club than we do. They’re tough and they’re big.

&uot;They’re going to have a shootout with Ferriday in a couple of weeks up there (McCall).&uot;

Vidalia dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in district while McCall improved to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in district.

Vidalia hosts Loyola Prep of Shreveport next Friday at 7 p.m.
