Etta Purser Marshall

MEADVILLE – Services for Etta Purser Marshall, 87, of Meadville, who died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Franklin Funeral Home with the Rev. Webb Armstrong officiating.

Burial will be at Sarepta Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home. Visitation is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at the church.

Mrs. Marshall was born Nov. 7, 1912, in Simpson County, the daughter of John Purser and Mae King Purser. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Erazmus &uot;Raz&uot; Marshall; two brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include one daughter, Vivian Runnels of Meadville; two sons, Charles Marshall and Rodney Marshall of Bryan, Texas; four children; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Wayne Purser, Steve Coleman, Vince Woodcock, Douglas Purser, Gabriel Purser, David Ezell and Will Zumbro.

Inez Torrey Bates

Jan. 7, 1908 -Oct. 16, 2000

FAYETTE – Services for Inez Torrey Bates, 92, of Church Hill, who died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at her residence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fayette Presbyterian Church with Dr. Knox Chamblin and the Rev. David DeVries officiating.

Burial will be at Union Church Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Bates was born Jan. 7, 1908 in Union Church, the daughter of George Sicily and Betty McLaurin Torrey.

She was a member of Fayette Presbyterian Church for 60 years, a retired elementary school teacher and a descendant of Scottish settlers who immigrated to Jefferson County in 1803.

Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, P. E. Bates; two brothers, John Torrey and James Phillip Torrey; and two sisters, Catherine Torrey Knight and Annie Laurin Torrey Curtis.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, George T. and Linda B. Bates and Eugene and Susie B. Bates, all of Church Hill; one grandson, John T. Bates of Birmingham, Ala.; three granddaughters, Evie Diane Peavey of Lucedale, Paula Susan Green of Stewartsville, Mo. and Martha Diane Bates of Hattiesburg; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Lizotte, Marvin McDonald, Ed Mardis, Arch Geudon, Albert Metcalfe and Warren Dent Frasier.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Walter Dawkins, Ed Davis Noble and Emile Guedon.

The family request memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 400 State St., Natchez, Miss., 39120.

Violet Kelley Leeds

SHREVEPORT, La. – Services for Violet Kelley &uot;Mrs. Kelley&uot; Leeds, who died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the Grace Home, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wellman Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Anderson officiating.

Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Wellman Funeral Home of Shreveport.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born in Nebo and had been a resident of the Shreveport area since the late 1930s. She was the former owner/operator of Kelley’s Fish Market that opened in 1945 and remained open until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Leeds; a brother, Marion Hutchins; and a sister, Lucy Hutchins Buckles.

Survivors include a son, JoJo Leeds; a granddaughter, Kelley Leeds; a sister, Rosa Lee Price of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Boyett, Cindy Henderson, Marion Brown, Jack Fitzgerald, Al Fitzgerald and Eddie Fitzgerald. Honorary pallbearers will be Angello Ropollo and Jimmy Dove.

Stewart Lynn Breland

Feb. 20, 1953 – Oct. 16, 2000

HARRISONBURG, La. – Services for Stewart Lynn Breland, 47, of Harrisonburg, who died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Magee, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Harrisonburg United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. David Bailey and Gary Roberts officiating.

Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Comer Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 to 10 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Breland was born Feb. 20, 1953, in Natchez, the son of Vernon L. Breland and Berlene Breland Nugent. He was a certified nursing assistant and of the Baptist faith. He was a life long resident of Catahoula Parish.

Mr. Breland was preceded in death by his father, Vernon L. Breland; his twin brother, Glenn Breland; and his stepfather, Harold Nugent.

Survivors include one son, Kevin Breland of Kansas; one daughter, April Breland of Clarks; his mother, Berlene Nugent of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Linda Breland Cockrell of Magee and Verna Breland Bench of Fort Worth, Texas; two stepbrothers, Albert Nugent and James Morris; one stepsister, Shelia Humphreys; two grandchildren, four nephews; and two nieces.

Pallbearers will be Steve Cockrell, Steele Cockrell, Jimmy Farmer, Craig Ensminger, Phillip Lewis and Sidney Eubanks.
