FERRIDAY, La. – It’s a brand-new season for the Huntington Hounds, and if the post-season turns out half as well as the regular season, Huntington fans will be a happy bunch.

&uot;There is more interest in football at Huntington than there has been in a long time, from what I understand,&uot; said first-year coach Gerald Reeves, who led the Hounds to a 25-15 win over Trinity last Friday to finish second in MPSA District 5-A.

That finish has earned the Hounds a trip to Flora today for a first-round playoff tilt with Tri-County, an 8-1 district champion team that will be among the most powerful teams Huntington has seen all season.

&uot;They’ve got a lot of weapons,&uot; Reeves said. &uot;They’ve got a big fullback who goes about 210, a couple of fast running backs, a quarterback who throws, a pretty good receiver – they’ve got a real good package. It’ll be hard to do anything with them.&uot;

But Reeves isn’t quite ready to end his first season with Huntington, he said.

&uot;I think we’ve had a good effort this season, and I think we’ll go over and play with them,&uot; Reeves said. &uot;But I will not be satisfied with a loss.

&uot;I’m proud, but I don’t ever want to be satisfied,&uot; he said. &uot;I want to go as far as we can go.&uot;

The Hounds will use the same game plan that earned them the win against Trinity – run the ball.

&uot;My bag of tricks is pretty well used up,&uot; Reeves said. &uot;At this point in the season, every team is pretty well scouted. It’s hard to come up with something new every week.

&uot;But like I told the players, you can’t try to trick a team to win. You have to line up and beat them,&uot; he said. &uot;That’s what we’re looking at this week.&uot;

Injuries have been a problem for the Hounds all season, Reeves said, but Huntington is heading into this week’s game as healthy as the team has been all year.

&uot;We still have a few injuries, but they’re injuries we can play on,&uot; he said. &uot;In the past, they haven’t been able to.&uot;
