BATON ROUGE (AP) — LSU is going to Disney World, and for Tigers sophomore cornerback Patrick Peterson, that’s like going home.
Peterson will be playing in his home state when LSU meets Penn State in the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1, and he said he is going to be the unofficial tour guide when the team visits the theme park.
‘‘It’s a wonderful place; I’ve been there millions of times,’’ said Peterson, who is from Pompano Beach, about 2 1/2 hours away. ‘‘I’ll probably show the guys where all the rides are. I’ll be the tour guide. I’ve been going since I was 5-years-old all the way to 16. I used to go about nine times a year, usually with the family.’’
Count sophomore running back Stevan Ridley as one of Peterson’s followers. He will be making his first trip to Orlando.
‘‘I’ll probably be on Patrick’s bus, because I won’t have a clue to where I’m going,’’ Ridley said. ‘‘A few of my friends have been and said how awesome it was. I’ll be a 20-year-old kid running around the park trying to have some fun.’’
Sophomore center T-Bob Hebert said he’s angling for the job of assistant guide.
‘‘Pat is the native and been more times, so I’ll let him handle the main managerial tour duties,’’ Hebert said. ‘‘I’ll be his wing man to facilitate the tour. I’d go once or twice a year if I could.’’
As the players talked of parks and rides, they also were happy to get back on the practice field this week. The well-rested Tigers will try to put a positive finish on the season, like each of Coach Les Miles’ first four LSU teams did. LSU has won all four bowl games under Miles, and each one has been convincing, with an average score of 39.3-11.0.
The team will practice the rest of the week and through Tuesday before breaking for Christmas and reassembling in Orlando on Dec. 26.
Asked if there had been much talk of theme parks, Peterson said, ‘‘Not really, not yet. The guys are just really excited to be practicing again. We’re ready to get this game kicked off, a lot of hype going in. This is the best non-BCS game out there.’’
Peterson said he particularly looks forward to playing in his home state. He’s never played in the Citrus Bowl Stadium, but he said he often attended Florida Classic games between Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. Also, he wants the game to serve as a strong finish for 2009 and as a springboard for 2010.
‘‘I want some interceptions, I need some interceptions and to be in the Jim Thorpe finalists next season,’’ he said. ‘‘My goal is to bring my A-plus game and get this thing rolling for next year.’’
