VIDALIA, La. – Not much can be done to alleviate flooding problems in the Concordia Park subdivision because it is such a low-lying area, Concordia Parish police jurors told Concordia Park residents Monday.

Still, President Charlie Blaney said he would revisit the problem with the jury’s public works manager. It was also mentioned that the Natural Resource Conservation Service is working on a study that will research solutions for the parish’s drainage problems.

Juror Willie Dunbar, who represents the area, said he would like to see more culverts along Rountree Road to help alleviate flooding, but no action was taken on that item during the meeting.

Dunbar also said during the meeting that some improvements still need to be made at Recreation District No. 3’s park near Vidalia Junior High, including building a new concession stand. Charles Ferguson, the district’s maintenance manager, was at the meeting but said only board President George Cupit could speak for the board.

Airport Committee Chairperson Cathy Darden and Concordia Parish Airport Manager Raymond Cowan promised to work with the airport’s board soon to brainstorm ways to raise revenue for the airport, such as hosting more events at the facility.

The jury approved a list of members and plan of organization for a committee to establish a shelter for stray animals.
