NATCHEZ — Police are looking for man who reportedly shot his girlfriend of one month Thursday at Williams Apartments on Aldrich Street.
Police Chief Mike Mullins said officers responded to a call at 12:55 p.m. from a neighbor who said Rena Payne, 31, had been shot in the arm by Clarence “June June” Johnson, 43.
“(Payne) tried to call 911 from her apartment, but (Johnson) took the phone away from her,” Mullins said. “(Payne) ran out of her apartment to a neighbor’s place, and the neighbor called 911 for her.”
By the time police arrived, Johnson had fled the scene.
“We’re still looking for (Johnson). The charge will be aggravated assault,” Mullins said.
Mullins said Johnson, who had been living with Payne for just one month, could go by several aliases.
“We’re not sure if (Clarence Johnson) is his real name,” Mullins said.
Anyone with information regarding Johnson’s whereabouts is urged to call the Natchez Police Department at 601-445-5565.
