Chris Jordan of Baton Rouge, La., made a 20-foot par putt on the first playoff hole to defeat Trey Denton of Canton to win the overall boys championship at the 2000 Gulf States Junior Tour Thanksgiving Classic Wednesday at Beau Pr\u00E9 Country Club.

Jordan, Tuesday’s first-round leader in the boys 14-15 division as well as the overall boys division after shooting a first-round 73, struggled Wednesday for a 77 to finish at 150.

Jordan had a chance to win the overall boys title outright but missed a birdie putt on the 18th hole. He also had a two-shot penalty on the 14th hole.

&uot;I had a bunch of bogeys and a couple of birdies,&uot; he said. &uot;I hit the ball pretty well today, especially on the back nine.&uot;

Denton, who was in fourth place with a 77 on Tuesday, shot a 73 on Wednesday for his 150 to force a playoff.

The playoff started, and ended, on hole No. 1.

&uot;We both hit good tee shots,&uot; Jordan said. &uot;Trey then hit his second shot in the hazard and mine almost went out of bounds. I chipped up to 20 feet and made my putt.&uot;

Denton finished in first place in the boys 14-15 division.

Morgan Landry of Lafayette, La., had a two-day total of 151 to finish second in the 14-15 division and third overall.

Travis Meyer of Lake Charles, La. won the boys 16-17 division and finished fourth overall with a 152.

The lowest round of Wednesday’s action was an even-par 72 by Ryan Barthold of Shreveport, La., which propelled him to a tie for seventh in the boys 16-17 division and a tie for 16th place in the overall boys division.

Amanda Mathis of Picayune fired a second-round 77 to become the overall winner in the girls 14-17 division with a two-day score of 154.

&uot;I don’t like the bunkers. I hit two bunkers and got doubles out of them,&uot; she said. &uot;Otherwise, I played well today.&uot;

The shot of the day was by Clay Bounds of Meridian. Bounds, playing in the boys 12-13 division, had a hole-in-one on the 16th hole.

&uot;I hit a pure shot and went right for it,&uot; he said. &uot;When Jon-Davis (King of Natchez) and I saw it in the hole we both jumped up and down and screamed.&uot;

&uot;Everyone else told us to be quiet,&uot; King said.

Andrew Loupe of Baton Rouge celebrated his 12th birthday by firing a 75 for a two-day score of 154 to defeat Lee Jones of Natchez by eight shots in the boys 12-13 division.

&uot;I was hitting the irons good. I putted and chipped real well today,&uot; Loupe said. &uot;I played better today than I did yesterday.&uot;

Jones had a disappointing 85 to finish second with a 162.

Edward Russell of Yazoo City won the boys alumni division with a two-day total of 163.

Leigh Phillips of Meridian won the girls 10-13 division, played on nine holes, with a two-day score of 88.

&uot;I didn’t play too well yesterday, but I didn’t get upset and lose my cool,&uot; she said. &uot;I played real good today and I hit the ball well.&uot;

Clinton Shepard of West Monroe, La., won the boys 10-11 division, also played on nine holes, with a two-day score of 79.
