LIBERTY — Adams County Christian School and Centreville Academy did well at the Amite School Center Tournament Saturday. Tensas Academy and Wilkinson County Christian Academy, on the other hand, did not.

ACCS went 2-2 at the tournament. The Lady Rebels had just one hit in their 6-0 loss to the Silliman Institute Lady Wildcats to drop immediately to the losers’ bracket of this double-elimination tournament. Led by Nikki Worthy, Braxtyn Elveston and Anna McDaniel, they responded with wins over Silliman’s JV team 4-0 and the Brookhaven Academy Lady Panthers 7-2.

Then ACCS had to face the best team in the state in Class AAA Copiah Academy. And the result of that game wasn’t pretty — a 9-0 loss in which the Lady Rebels were no-hit.

ACCS (8-6) next plays at Tensas Academy on Monday with the JV game at 4 p.m. and the varsity game at 5:16 p.m.

Centreville Academy also went 2-2 in the tournament, but the Lady Tigers did so differently than ACCS did. They won the first two games in convincing fashion — 12-3 over the Tallulah Academy Lady Trojans and 8-1 over Silliman’s JV team. Ariana Bigner was the winning pitcher in both games as she struck out a combined nine batters. Bigner and Taylor Delatte were their leading hitters in both games.

Then the Lady Tigers’ bats went into a tailspin against Oak Forest Academy and Silliman’s varsity team.

In its 4-1 loss to the Lady Wildcats that knocked it out of the tournament, Centreville had just one hit against Kaitlan Weaver. The Lady Tigers (6-4) host Trinity Episcopal 6 p.m. Monday.

The Tensas Academy Lady Chiefs lost to Silliman Institute’s junior varsity team 7-1 and were eliminated by Tallulah Academy 8-6.

Bailey Keyes started, but did not finish, both games on the mound for Tensas Academy and was charged with the loss in both games. In the game against Silliman’s JV team, Hannah James went 1-for-2, Taylor Olds had a single and a run scored, and Mallori Lansing had a single. In the game against Tallulah Academy, James went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Hali Matthews was 1-for-2 with two runs batted in, and Olds, Lansing and Daley Jordan each had a single.

Tensas Academy (4-6) hosts ACCS on Monday.

The WCCA Lady Rams went 0-2 in tournament play, falling to the Bowling Green School Lady Buccaneers 7-1 and then were eliminated by the Franklin Academy Lady Cougars.

WCCA (0-5) hosts Tensas Academy next Tuesday with the varsity game at 4 p.m.

Franklin County goes 1-1 at

McComb Classic

MCCOMB — The Franklin County Lady Bulldogs started their season with a split at the McComb Classic. Franklin County lost to the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats 8-4 before defeating the host McComb Lady Tigers 15-8.

In the first game, Bogue Chitto led 4-0 before Franklin County even went to bat in the first inning. However, the Lady Bulldogs responded with three runs in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 4-4.

But later in the game, Bogue Chitto’s Christian Black hit a two-run home run during the Lady Bobcats’ 3-run rally in the top of the fifth that gave them an 8-4 lead.

Lay Lay Griffin led Franklin County at the plate, going 4-for-4. Losing pitcher Sierra Bethley went 3-for-4 and Jamecia Starks was 2-for-3 with a double.

In the win over McComb, Franklin County got off to a much better start with five runs in each of the first two innings to jump out to a 10-0 lead. Then the Lady Bulldogs had enough offense to keep the Lady Tigers at bay the rest of the game.

Shelly Case was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bulldogs. Starks led their 20-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and S. Middleton went 3-for-4 with a double.

Franklin County (1-1) plays at Brookhaven on Tuesday with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 6 p.m.
