The Huntington Hounds scored the first ten points of the game and cruised to a 58-40 win over the Adams County Christian Rebels Tuesday night at the Rebel Gym.

Barrett Arthur led a balanced Huntington attack with 13 points and eight rebounds. Josh Johns added nine points, six rebounds and three steals.

&uot;We played very uninspired basketball to begin the game,&uot; said Rebels head coach Paul Hayles.

After the Rebels closed Huntington’s lead to 10-6, the Hounds scored the last eight points of the first quarter and took a 36-15 halftime lead.

ACCS (1-4) cut the lead to 15 points a few times in the second half, but never could keep a sustained rally to get back in the game.

&uot;We had a better effort in the second half, but not enough to overcome,&uot; Hayles said. &uot;Huntington played a well-coached game.&uot;

Defensively, Huntington (3-5) had 19 steals and forced 11 turnovers while ACCS had 16 steals but forced only seven turnovers.

&uot;We’re obviously not a good shooting team from the outside,&uot; said Hounds head coach Paul Glynn. &uot;We pressed a lot and got a lot of lay-ups. We did a good job on Ty (Smith).&uot;

Huntington didn’t make any three-pointers until Crawford Kifer and Nathan Addison each hit one late in the fourth quarter.

Trey Mardis led ACCS with 15 points and six steals. Smith had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four steals.

Huntington next plays tonight at 8:30 p.m. in the Silliman Tournament in Clinton, La., against the loser of the Bowling Green/Amite School Center game.

ACCS next plays at Parklane at approximately 7 p.m Thursday.
