Volunteers braved the cold inside the old A&P building on Wall St. Monday to help organize the Salvation Army angel tree toys as well as stuff grocery bags full of Christmas dinner fixings.

The Salvation Army will be distributing their angel tree gifts today.

&uot;This year 600 kids will be assisted and they will receive all the fixings to make a complete Christmas dinner,&uot; said volunteer Joyce Borum, &uot;turkey and all.&uot;

&uot;This is program chairman Alma Timmons’ sixth year to head the event,&uot; said Borum.

Borum is part of the recently organized Salvation Army Auxiliary. &uot;There are 32 members,&uot; said Borum, &uot;and at least 20 other individuals volunteering.&uot;

Volunteer Virginia Newby said this year is &uot;amazingly well organized.&uot;

The volunteers spent the day before distribution lining all the gifts up in rows according to their numbers.

&uot;Some ladies from the Home League are at the Salvation Army building stuffing Christmas stockings,&uot; said Salvation Army Lt. Bobby Westmoreland. He also recognized that the Mississippi Nurses Association were among the volunteers.
