The Parklane Academy Pioneers scored the game’s first 19 points en route to an easy 68-42 win over the Adams County Christian Rebels Friday at the ACCS Rebel Gym.

Three of ACCS’s star players, Ty Smith, Trey Mardis and Garrett Gamberi, were on the bench the entire first quarter for disciplinary reasons.

Parklane (6-7) took advantage of the situation with a dominating first quarter, scoring 34 points while holding the Rebels to only five points.

Parklane’s first scoring spree ended on back-to-back baskets by Derek Corley and Hunter Cook.

The Pioneers then went on a 15-1 run to close out the quarter.

&uot;The guys who started played hard,&uot; said Rebels head coach Paul Hayles.

&uot;Their lack of time on the floor together affected their rhythm and Parklane exploited it quickly,&uot; he said.

Parklane had 15 steals in the first quarter alone and finished with 25 for the game.

Parklane then went to its bench in the second quarter and ACCS (1-8), with Smith, Mardis and Gamberi on the court, outscored the Pioneers 16-9 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 22 points at halftime.

Smith scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the second quarter for the Rebels. He also had 10 rebounds.

However, the Pioneers wouldn’t let the Rebels cut into the lead any further, as they opened up the third quarter with a 10-0 run and outscored the Rebels 19-12 in the quarter to put the game away.

ACCS outscored Parklane 9-6 in the fourth quarter, a quarter which saw Pioneers head coach E.W. Ford put some of his starters back in the game even though the outcome had long been decided.

Jeremy Freeman had 14 points and six steals, Jacob Brumfield had 13 points, including two three-pointers, Chris Braley added 10 points and seven rebounds and Lance Nelson chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and five steals to lead Parklane.

In the junior varsity boys game, ACCS defeated Parklane 54-45.

Chase Clayton led ACCS with 14 points.

ACCS’ varsity boys team next plays at Wilkinson County Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 5.
