VIDALIA, La. – The pea-soup fog that enveloped the area Wednesday night apparently obscured Davidson’s view of the basket as the Vikings walked to an easy 84-38 win.
&uot;We out-hustled them,&uot; said Vidalia’s Derrick Johnson. &uot;We just played better ball. That’s all I can really say.&uot;
Johnson’s 12 first-quarter points helped spark Vidalia’s opening 14-0 run. Johnson finished with 19 points and eight steals.
After Davidson fought back to a score of 24-13, the Vikings went on a 26-0 tear to start the second quarter.
The Warriors’ only points in the quarter came when Lamar Fry put back a missed free throw with 7.9 seconds left in the half.
The Vikings (13-5) led 50-16 at halftime.
Vidalia reserves continued the onslaught in the second half, out-scoring the Warriors 34-22 until the final gun.
Jarvis Vaughn led Vidalia with 22 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Kenny Warner added 10 points.
No Warrior players scored in double digits, although Charles Winston notched nine points, six rebounds four steals and two blocks.
Vidalia plays again Friday at Port Gibson. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
