Partiers can get free ride home

VIDALIA, La. – Celebrants in Concordia Parish who have too much to drink New Year’s Eve can get a ride from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office – one way or another.
The Sheriff’s Office will offer a &uot;tipsy taxi&uot; service for those who have been drinking and have no designated driver to drive them home, according to Sheriff Randy Maxwell.
But if drinkers decide to drive themselves home anyway, it is likely that sheriff’s deputies will end up giving them rides anyway – to jail, not home.
That is because, as a part of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission’s Safe and Sober Campaign, deputies are working overtime through Jan. 1 to catch impaired drivers and unbuckled adults and children.
&uot;I&160;know that everyone wants to have a good time, but having a good time does not mean jeopardizing others’ safety on the roads. We can’t endanger our fellow motorists because we wanted to enjoy a party a little too much,&uot; Maxwell said.
Drinkers can also get free rides home inside the city limits of Vidalia and Natchez by Natchez-Vidalia Cab Service, thanks to sponsor Southwest Distributors.
&uot;We’re encouraging people to use the service,&uot;&160;said Natchez Police Chief Willie Huff. &uot;The bottom line is that they can take the free ride, or they can take the $1,000 ride we’d give them.&uot;
