A Roxie resident was arrested Friday in Vidalia, La, Friday for allegedly acquiring alcohol for six underage females ranging in age from 14 to 19.

Derric D. Mobley, 22, 40 Shady Haven Road, Roxie, was being held on a $1,548 bond Saturday charged with six counts contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

At around 8 p.m., Vidalia Police Officer Mike Cowan said he was patrolling the area of Hammers Drive Thru as part of a grant program to combat DUIs program when he spotted Mobley.

Cowan said Mobley make two trips through the Carter Street business, the second of which was to correct an error in the previous order.

Because of the age of the females Cowan said the incident &uot;struck a nerve&uot; with him.

&uot;They’re just children,&uot; Cowan said. They just didn’t have any business being there and certainly didn’t have any business drinking.&uot;

Juveniles with Mobley included one 14-year-old and two 15-year-olds, one of whom was Mobley’s cousin. Police believe Mobley picked up the three girls at a mall that evening, and they later contacted friends to join them.

While watching the incident take place, Cowan said he and another officer saw the group exchange money and drinks.

After Mobley’s arrest, the juveniles were released to their parents.
