NATCHEZ — Aaron Sandifer made a contribution to his team Monday night of which most goalies never dream.
He scored.
Near the 39th minute, Sandifer had been replaced at goal, and was running the field and saw an open kick from about 20 yards out, coach Paul Burns said.
Sandifer’s goal ended the scoring for Cathedral in a 4-0 win over Natchez High.
Other goals were scored by Austin Walker and Aaron White, who scored two.
“On Aaron’s second shot, it was bouncing around at their end. The keeper made a good save, deflected it but wasn’t able to control it. The keeper was down low (from the previous shot) and Aaron put it over the top of his head,” Burns said.
A good Natchez High team had several players out due to injuries, Burns said, giving Cathedral an advantage.
The two teams face off again in January.
Cathedral is 10-1 overall and 2-0 in district. Its next game is Jan. 8.
