Vidalia softball teams take wins

LOWER SUSSEX, Del. — Paige Bryan’s bases-loaded, one-out bunt forced an error that brought in Blake Colclasure with the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning as the Vidalia 15- and 16-year-old All-Stars defeated Italy 6-5 Sunday night at the 2012 Senior League Softball World Series.
Vidalia, the Southwest Regional champion, broke a scoreless ball game with five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Micahla Hughes had a run-scoring double and Taylor Rogers had the big hit for Vidalia with a three-run triple.
Italy, the EMEA champion, responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 5-5 before Vidalia rallied for the win.
Bryan was the winning pitcher as she allowed no runs on four hits and struck out four in five and two-thirds innings. Vidalia will next take on Puerto Rico at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

East Texas 7
SANTA FE, N.M. — Vidalia opened up a close game with a 10-run rally in the bottom of the fourth inning to defeat East Texas in 4 1/2 innings Sunday afternoon.
Vidalia led East Texas 8-2 after two innings of play before East Texas scored two runs in the top of the third inning and one in the top of the fourth to make it an 8-5 game. After Vidalia increased its lead to 18-5, East Texas scored two runs in the top of the fifth but could not extend the game.
As a team, Vidalia had 18 total hits and six of them went for extra bases. Emily Isbell went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. Smith was 4-for-4 with a double. Both Katelynn Bertelsen and Katelin Temple were 3-for-3 with a double and a walk. Laken Hood was 2-for-3 with a double.
Vidalia will take on the loser of the New Mexico South/West Texas game today at 1 p.m. local time.

Colorado 1
SANTA FE, N.M. — The Vidalia 14-and-under Little League Softball Team kept its season alive at the Southwest Regional Tournament with a big win over Colorado in five innings Sunday morning.
Winning pitcher Kameron Stevenson along with Bailey Jordan and Cassie Gonzales combined to one-hit Colorado. The defense behind them committed no errors and the hitting finally showed up for Vidalia as it had 12 hits.
“We did a lot better (pitching). We’re actually just now settling in,” Vidalia coach Donald Bertelsen said. “Defense was awesome. We played flawless defense. Our bats are finally starting to come around.”
Elizabeth Smith went 3-for-3 while Gonzales was 2-for-4 with a double.
