Hounds notch pair of victories

FERRIDAY, La. – Both Huntington teams picked up another District 5-1A win Friday with a pair of victories over visiting Ben’s Ford.
The Hounds took an early lead and held on for a 74-62 win in the boys varsity game.
&uot;I thought we played a lot better and played good team ball,&uot; said Todd Iverstine, who led the Hounds with 24 points. &uot;It was a good team victory.&uot;
Huntington (14-8, 4-5) outscored Ben’s Ford 22-12 in the first quarter.
&uot;We came out fired up and made some easy baskets,&uot; said Josh Johns, who finished with 14 points and 15 boards. &uot;The rebounds fell our way.&uot;
Barrett Arthur and Randy Hinson each added 10 points for the Hounds.
Blake Anderson led Ben’s Ford (14-8, 4-5) with 25 points.
In the girls’ varsity game, the Lady Hounds exploded with a 31-point third quarter en route to 74-53 win.
Huntington (16-8, 8-1) led 32-27 at the half before a 31-8 tear to open the second half.
&uot;In the third quarter, we came out and changed our press to a zone and it gave them fits,&uot; said Lady Hounds coach Penny Moak.
Huntington was also motivated when senior Lindsey Paul went down with a knee injury in the second quarter, Moak said.
&uot;I think the team came back out and played a lot for her sake,&uot; Moak said.
Emily Hazlip led the Lady Hounds with 24 points. Sarah Ashmore scored 14 and Tiffany Ferguson notched 12 points and 10 steals.
Brooke McGehee led Ben’s Ford with 17 points.
Huntington is back on the court today for four games at Tensas Academy, beginning at 2 p.m.
