Lady Bulldogs blank Wave in grudge match

The Natchez Lady Bulldogs’ first-ever win came at the expense of Cathedral. The Lady Green Wave’s only win this season was over Natchez.
Even though both teams had ample motivation for Saturday’s game on a slippery, muddy Natchez field, the home team earned bragging rights with a 3-0 win.
The game started out a rough one, as Cathedral’s Becky Tillman left the game early with a leg injury and Natchez goalie Johanna Farmer was knocked unconscious after the ball struck her in the face. Both girls recovered but did not return.
Amber Blake was moved into goal for Natchez (5-5), where she fended off four Cathedral (1-7) shots before the Lady Bulldogs shot once.
Natchez made that first shot count, though, as the Tammy Fleming strike found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
&uot;I didn’t think it was going in, but I’m glad it did,&uot; Fleming said. &uot;I think it got us pumped up for the rest of the game.&uot;
A second-half Felicia Mo goal was called back because of an offsides penalty, but Mallory Dixon soon made amends with a goal of her own for the 2-0 lead.
Renee Davis added an insurance goal late in the game.
