FERRIDAY, La. – The Trinity Saints’ domination of MPSA District 5-1A’s junior varsity ranks came to the appropriate end Saturday at the district’s JV tournament at Huntington School.
The Saints earned the district title with a 69-47 win over Ben’s Ford.
&uot;I can’t say enough about these kids and how hard they’ve worked this season,&uot; said Trinity coach Billy Ellzey. &uot;I wish I could mention every single one of them.&uot;
Freshman Dudley Guice deserved mention after scoring 28 points in the final game.
&uot;Joey Wilson stood out today, too,&uot; Ellzey said. &uot;He got after it in two games today.&uot;
Wilson scored 14 points in the final and 15 points in the semifinal game, a 57-20 trouncing of Huntington.
Trinity’s strong showing at the JV level bodes well for the future of Trinity basketball, Ellzey said.
&uot;Coupled with the freshmen already at the high school level, I think we’ll be very competitive in the coming years,&uot; he said.
But the future is now for Guice, who may graduate to the varsity team for next week’s varsity tournament.
&uot;But that’s really up to (varsity coach David) King,&uot; Ellzey said.
Ellzey bids farewell to four freshmen – Guice, Sam Kirby, Preston Sullivan and Andy Moon.
&uot;They’ve all been an instrumental part of our success this season,&uot; Ellzey said.&t;
