VIDALIA, La. – Shannon Weeks admitted being shocked — in a good way — when she realized she had been named Miss Vidalia.
&uot;I was shocked, because I really didn’t expect to win,&uot; Weeks, 17, said Monday.
On Saturday night, Weeks competed for the title against seven other high school seniors, all of whom are her classmates at Vidalia High School.
During the pageant, contestants competed in four categories:&160;evening wear, sportswear, fitness dance and interviews.
As Miss Vidalia, Weeks will represent the town as various functions, including the Jim Bowie Festival and Vidalia’s annual Christmas parade.
But such functions are not all Weeks will have to fit into her schedule.
At Vidalia High, Weeks serves as head cheerleader and is also a member of the yearbook staff and the Beta Club. She was elected Miss VHS this year and is an honor roll student.
When asked if her Vidalia High classmates treated her any differently on the first school day after her win, Weeks shrugged.
&uot;Not really,&uot;&160;Weeks said. &uot;Well, a lot of them did say ‘congratulations’ — but that’s about it.&uot;
When she graduates in May, Weeks plans to attend Louisiana State University, where she will study to become a dentist.
Weeks, the daughter of Steve and Angie Weeks of Vidalia, attends McNeely Road Church of God in Natchez.
First runner-up was Lyndsy Haley.
C.J. Holloway and Tabetha Windham tied for second-runner up.
Haley was named most photogenic and Sara Chalmers was named Miss Congeniality.
